On October 30, 2020 at 10 a.m., the Food Advisory Board had their bi-weekly meeting. In attendance were Student Government Association (SGA) Vice President of Student Life Jeannina Villalobos, IIT Dining Executive Chef Svenska Lindroth, Resident District Manager Steven Goodwin, SGA Senator Sameer Sheikh, and two students, Neil Dhote and Somtochukwu Onwuasoanya, who are planning to run for the position of Residence Hall Association (RHA) Senator in SGA.
The Board discussed ideas for Halloween events and menu options such as delivering decorated cookies, goodie bags, and pumpkin-flavored sweet brittle. IIT Dining has planned a calendar full of events for the month of November. Some highlights include a pie party for four days, a crazy food combinations event where two foods are mixed to create a new recipe, a DIY snack mix event, a hot apple cider event from Chartwells, and giving spice packs to students to flavor their food. Additionally, November is Vegan Meal Awareness Month, Health and Wellness Month, and Food Waste Awareness Month, so events and adjustments to the menu will be made in observance for each of those causes.
IIT Dining plans to hold a community food drive event on campus to help out people who are not able to afford enough food and/or are experiencing food insecurity. Students will have the option to donate extra meal swipes and guest meals. Last year, a similar event was hosted where approximately 300 boxes of food were able to be donated to local community members and charities. There was also talk about virtual de-stress events during the week of final exams.
A calendar for IIT Dining events will be shared with student leaders soon, and should be finalized within the next few days. RHA has made plans for the entire rest of the semester to hold events in collaboration with IIT Dining.
IIT Dining will be creating a series of videos to share with the student body as a way to interact with students. These videos will include recipe and cooking tutorials and promotional material for events and menu items. IIT Dining is also going to be featuring members of its team via spotlights to familiarize the student body with the members.
IIT Dining has started to deliver breakfast meals and items to residence halls. A continental breakfast consisting of juice, granola bars, fruit, and cereal is served and delivered with lunch.
