“Leaders aren't born; they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal.” -Vince Lombardi With over 100 student organizations, the IIT Leadership Academy, and an active Greek Community, a focus on leadership is not a new idea to IIT; however, students have never had the opportunity to live in a community designed to help them succeed in their leadership and Greek involvements. For the first time this fall, students living in the residence halls at Illinois Tech have an opportunity to live in a unique community: Leadership and Greek Life on the 3rd floor of East Hall in MSV. As the Residence and Greek Life website states, “ Individuals looking to learn more about fraternity and sorority life and being a leader – those who are already Greek, those interested in becoming Greek, as well as those interested in learning more about what it means to be Greek are invited to be a part of this community.” Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to attend leadership events, work closely with Greek Council, network with campus leaders, and develop their skills in a variety of ways. The Resident Advisor for the floor, Miriam Schmid, is a 3rd year RA who has held a variety of leadership positions across campus and in the Greek community, including VP of Community for Greek Council, Parliamentarian of Alpha Sigma Alpha, Leadership Academy Scholar, Union Board President, SGA Finance Board and Judicial Board. Miriam stated, “Throughout all of these positions that I have held at IIT, the most exciting part of each of them has been working with other student leaders who are passionate about what they can achieve. Being a student leader at IIT is great preparation for being a leader in our fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Architecture. I cannot wait to meet all of the outstanding students of MSV 3rd East and develop our leadership skills together!”
