Coming to college, I knew exactly what I wanted; get good grades, meet other students, get involved in organizations that look good on my resume, and get the best job possible when I graduated. Joining a Greek organization wasn’t at the bottom of my list of things to do - it wasn’t on the list at all. Does this sound familiar? Despite these plans, within two weeks of being at IIT, I had joined the Greek community. At the time, I could never have imagined that Greek Life would be a significant part of my life at IIT. What could change my mind in regards to Greek Life in only two short weeks? Meeting members of the Greek community who were involved as Orientation Leaders, Resident Advisors, volunteers for move-in, and leading organizations across campus made me realize that Greek Life could offer me a way to fulfill many of my college goals and beyond. Going Greek at IIT is rarely what people expect when they think of fraternities and sororities. We are nothing like the "Animal House" stereotype that Greek Life often has. We focus our attention on scholarship, brother/sisterhood, and philanthropy. We provide opportunities for our members to perform community service, work together on academic work, and build bonds that will last lifetimes. If these are things you are interested in, then it would not be a bad idea to check out Greek Life. If you talk to Greeks at IIT, the majority of them will say that the best decision they have made in college was to go Greek. Often times you'll hear that our members didn't plan to go Greek, but for one reason or another they did and haven't looked back since. We encourage all students to come around the Quad and see what we are all about. We understand that Greek Life isn't for everyone, but we do have a wide range of things to offer people. We are always looking for new members who we can help improve in all areas of their life. All Greeks have had a different experience with Greek Life, but in the end it has affected all of their lives in a positive way. So don't be shy and stop by!
